Pre & Post Care

Electrolysis

Pre Treatment

DON’T tweeze! The offending hair can be clipped or trimmed. Tweezing or pulling the hair out in any manner causes hair regrowth to be stronger, thicker, and deeper!
DON’T touch, scratch, pick, or squeeze the treated area. This could result in scarring. By touching the area, you are transferring bacteria to the open follicles which could cause breakouts and/or infection.
DON’T use harsh abrasive soap/scrubbing on treated areas. This will irritate the skin..
DON’T tan or use tanning beds for 48 hours before or after treatments. Tanning can result in hyperpigmentation. Sunburned skin cannot be treated.
DON’T submerge the area in a hot tub, lake, or pool for 48 hours. This exposes the skin to stray bacteria.
DON’T use deodorant or antiperspirant for 24 hours after treatment of underarms.
DON’T bleach hair between treatments. This can cause skin irritation and sensitivity. It also makes it more challenging for your electrologist to see the mouth of the follicle.
DO avoid caffeine, such as coffee, tea, or soda, prior to treatment. This may increase sensitivity and cause mild dehydration.‍
DON’T use depilatories, temporary hair removal creams.

Post Treatment

Most people exhibit little to no post treatment manifestations. However, you could expect to see some mild redness and slight swelling for about 15 minutes to one hour after treatment. This is perfectly normal. Pustules (whiteheads), bruising, or small scabs (eschars) may be part of the normal healing process. These are temporary and will disappear with healing time.
DO keep the treated area clean by using a gentle cleanser, followed by an antiseptic (50%/70% alcohol or Witch Hazel) one or two times after treatment.
DO use a topical antibiotic if irritation occurs. This will help with healing and prevent infection. Apply ointments or creams with a clean applicator. If irritation continues, apply 1% hydrocortisone cream. This is anti-inflammatory and will reduce redness and swelling.
DO wear loose-fitting clothes on treated to allow the skin to breathe and heal.
DO report any skin reactions or changes in your health history to your electrologist.
such as coffee, tea, or soda, prior to treatment. This may increase sensitivity and cause mild dehydration.
DO remember, to achieve the best results keep regular recommended appointments in order to treat the hair in the proper growth stage. Waiting too long in-between appointments results in less moisture in the follicle.
